For this project, ART 5 students will create their own Rex Ray designs that show their understanding of key principles of design: Unity and Rhythm, through the use of shape. Students will need to create interesting compositions using negative space, a basic shape of their choice and use of color, all while keeping in mind unity and rhythm within a piece of artwork.
Day 1: Introductions and Practice Sketches
After the introductory conversation ( I rarely do sit and get in the art room), students were off to do a practice sketch illustrating their understanding of the art terms mentioned earlier. To help students I created a step by step process to make the thought process easier:
1. Choose a shape
2. Create variations of that shape (unity)
3. Repeat them (rhythm)
4. Creating an interesting composition utilizing the negative space (use empty areas as interest areas)
